Scruff made headlines by launching a travel component to their social network app, a gay dating app in China is now the largest in the world, and MisterBNB allows gay travelers to book stays at gay hosts’ homes (ala AirBnb). The travel industry loves gay travelers, and with good reason. According to Community Marketing and Insights, the LGBT community spends roughly $100 billion dollars a year in travel, and gay travelers spend 25 percent more on vacation than the average traveler. In the past, DINK (double income, no kids) ensured gay couples had plenty extra income to splurge and now that gay marriage is legal in almost two dozen countries, gay couples are going over the top with destination wedding celebrations. While some of the world’s most popular gay travel places are in the US, South America and Europe, the largest LGBT destination is far from you what you’d imagine.
